TOWN BOARD Meeting Notes

Marion Town Park

Monday, September 21, 2020

A Town Board meeting of the Town of Marion, Wayne County, NY was held on

Monday, September 21, 2020 at the Marion Town Park.

Supervisor Bender called the meeting to order at 5:55pm.  This meeting was conducted using social distancing at the Marion Town Park due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

PRESENT:         Deborah Smith, Councilwoman

Joan Fisher, Councilwoman

LaVerne Bliek, Councilman

Ronald Lonneville, Councilman

Jolene Bender, Supervisor


OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Kathy Cauwels, Marion Principal Account Clerk; Duane Smeatin, Code Enforcement Officer; Marlene Martin; Chuck Martin; Mary Fisher; Linda Haskins

The meeting started at 5:55pm by Supervisor Bender calling for an executive session.  This was to discuss employment history of a particular person. The executive session closed at 6:30pm on a motion from Councilman Bliek and seconded by Councilwoman Smith.  The Town Board went back into session at 6:34pm.

At 6:30pm, Supervisor Bended asked everyone to stand and give the Pledge of Allegiance.

Town Business: 

Supervisor Bender took a moment to thank Councilwoman Smith for her work and dedication to the first ever E-waste collection for the Town of Marion.  Supervisor Bender and Councilwoman Smith took a moment to thank Councilwoman Fisher, Councilman Bliek, Steve Taber, and Jason & Morgan Monroe for their help with the collection process. The Town Board decided to have an E-waste collection every other year.  This will be figured into the budget process in the future.

The Town Board started with discussing the 2021 Town of Marion budget.

Councilwoman Fisher would like a job description for the Park Maintenance position for budget line # 71101.01.0.000.  Councilwoman Fisher will work on this process.

Councilman Lonneville stated that the word “Sterling” needs to be removed from budget                                        line # 803101.01.0.119.

The Town Board discussed the General Section of the budget.  This discussion was long.

Citizens Comments:

There were 4 residents who attended and asked the following questions:

  • Why is the current Lodge at the town park not being updated? Windows would improve the lodge greatly.
  • Why is the Highway Department not fixing the roads like they should be?
  • Can the Town Park be plowed in the winter? Can the circle be plowed as well as the parking lot?  This would be extremely helpful for walkers.

With no further business, on a motion by Councilwoman Smith and seconded by Councilman Bliek, Supervisor Bender closed the meeting at 8:32pm.
