A Town Board meeting of the Town of Marion, Wayne County, NY was held on

Monday, June 24, 2019 in the Marion Municipal Room.

 

Supervisor Deming called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

 

PRESENT:         Nick Deming, Supervisor

Joan Fisher, Councilwoman

Ronald Lonneville, Councilman

Debbie Smith, Councilwoman

Vern Bliek, Councilman

ABSENT:

OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE:  Caryn Devlin, Marion Historian; Perry Howland, Williamson Record & Sun newspaper.

Supervisor Deming called the meeting to order at 6:30pm and asked for a roll call.

Councilwoman Fisher started the Pledge of Allegiance.

Town Business:

Supervisor Deming spoke first regarding a complaint he had received about parking on Erotus Ave.  Supervisor Deming is working with Code Enforcement Officer, Duane Smeatin to address the resident’s complaint.

Supervisor Deming next mentioned that Lyons National Bank would like to hold another paper shredding event in Marion.  Supervisor Deming will work with the bank to schedule a date.

Supervisor Deming discussed the New York State discrimination and sexual harassment training that is needed for every town employee before October 1, 2019.  Supervisor Deming will schedule a lunch meeting in the Marion Library’s community room and give a presentation to town employees.  Anyone who can not attend will be asked to take an online webinar.  Supervisor Deming will schedule a date with the library and let staff members know.

Councilman Fisher spoke next regarding the Marion Recreation Department.  Supervisor Deming attending training provided by NYMIR.  A variety of advice was given for child safety.  Councilwoman Fisher will work with the Marion Town Board in incorporate these into the 2020 budget.

Councilwoman Fisher also talked about scheduling conflicts between the Recreation Softball and Marion travel soccer league.  Councilwoman Fisher will work with Recreation Director Carry Gorton in the future to help elevate this problem.

Councilwoman Fisher spoke next about a $1,000 donation that Chloe DeLyser is looking to make to the Town of Marion.  This is a donation from Gatorade.  Chloe was awarded the 2019 Gatorade Player of the year for New York State.

Resolution #6062019 Authorize Supervisor to sign Regional Water Storage Project Addendum No. 2

The following resolution was adopted

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board authorizes the Supervisor to sign the Addendum No. 2 for the Regional Water Storage Tank; and

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board directs the Clerk of the Board to give a copy of this                 resolution to the Principal Account Clerk.

RESOLUTION #6072019 Deputy Highway Superintendent to Obtain Estimates to Purchase Pickup Truck

On a motion by Councilman Bliek and seconded by Councilwoman Fisher

The following resolution was adopted

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board approves Deputy Highway Superintendent, Steven Taber to obtain estimates to purchase a pickup truck for the Highway Superintendent,

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board directs the Clerk of the Board to give a copy of this resolution to Steven Taber and the Principal Account Clerk.

Resolution #6082019 Accept Resignation of Deborah Weis, Board of Assessment Review

On a motion by Councilwoman Fisher and seconded by Councilwoman Smith

Nays:   0

The following resolution was adopted

WHEREAS, Deborah Weis has submitted her resignation as a member of the Board of Assessment Review effective 6/17/19; now

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board regretfully accepts the resignation of Deborah Weis as a member of the Board of Assessment Review; and

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board directs the Clerk of the Board to give a copy of this resolution to Deborah Weis.

Resolution #6092019  Authorize Public Hearing for the Purpose of Rezoning

On a motion by Councilman Lonneville and seconded by Councilwoman Smith

ADOPTED:    Ayes:    5          Fisher, Smith, Lonneville, Bliek, Deming

Nays:   0

The following resolution was adopted as amended.

WHEREAS, the Marion Town Board has been requested per the attached signed letter from the Town of Marion Zoning Board of Appeals and Steven Schutt to rezone the property at 4017 and 4027 North Main Street, from I-1 (Industrial) to M-R (Medium Residential); now

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board authorizes a Public Hearing to be held on July 15, 2019 at 6:00 PM in the Marion Municipal room for the purpose of hearing comments regarding the proposal; and

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board directs the Clerk of the Board to advertise such in the legal newspaper for the Town of Marion; and

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Marion Town Board directs the Clerk of the Board to give a copy of this resolution to: Marion Zoning Board of Appeals, Marion Planning Board, Wayne County Planning Board, Town Clerks of Neighboring Towns, and Code Enforcement Officer.

The Marion Town Board went into Executive Session at 7:15pm on a motion from Councilwoman Smith and seconded by Councilman Lonneville to discuss security issues.

With no further business, on a motion by Councilman Lonneville and seconded by Councilwoman Smith, Supervisor Deming closed the meeting at 7:35pm
