A special Town board meeting of the Town of Marion, Wayne County, NY was held on

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in the Marion Municipal Room.

PRESENT:         Debbie Smith, Councilwoman

Joan Fisher, Councilwoman

LaVerne Bliek, Councilman

Ronald Lonneville, Councilman

Nick Deming, Supervisor

OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Duane Smeatin, Code Enforcement Officer; Steve Taber, Town of Marion Deputy Highway Superintendent; Brian Frey, Wayne County Highway Department.

Supervisor Deming called the meeting to order at 4pm and asked for a roll call.

A brief meeting was held regarding installing sidewalks on Mill Street in the Town of Marion.  The Town Board has set aside money in their 2019 budget for new sidewalks.  These sidewalks will be done during the Wayne County’s Mill Street renovation project.  Sidewalks will be installed by Wayne county for the Town of Marion.  Sidewalks will be installed on the South side Main Street to Pembrook Drive.  This will be 2,000 linear feet of sidewalks, again only on the south side of the street and will be funded by the Town of Marion.  Wayne County will be installing sidewalks on the North side of Mill Street from South Main Street to Erotus Avenue.

Supervisor Deming would like to hold a public meeting, in conjunction with Wayne County, regarding the sidewalks to help keep the residents informed of the upcoming project.  Brian Frey will give Supervisor Deming dates that he’s available to attend a meeting in the future.

The Mill Street project will begin working again near the end of May for 2019.  Sidewalks would not be installed until the end of the season closer to September.

A question was raised regarding the fee for sidewalks.  The county will work with the Town regarding payment of the sidewalk.  The Town of Marion and Wayne County have in kind services that will most likely be utilized for this project.

The Town of Marion would like to replace the sidewalk from Erotus Street to Union Street.  This is not part of the original county project. The county will work with the Town of Marion on this section of sidewalk.

Brian Frey recommended that the Town of Marion adopt a sidewalk policy regarding maintenance to the sidewalks in town.  The Town Board will look into this.

On a motion from Councilwoman Fisher and seconded by Councilwoman Smith, The Town Board went into executive session at 4:50pm to discuss an appointment of a specific employee and their pay.

With no further business, on a motion by Councilman Lonneville and seconded by Supervisor Deming, Supervisor Deming closed the meeting at 5:35 pm.
